Another great read. Shane has the ability to put on paper the true Aussie spirit & sense of humor. Keep 'em coming!
I'm sure the other reviewers here are people who are fans of the genre or perhaps they're just easily pleased but I found the book bland and vanilla with little to redeem it above an average read on a bored Sunday afternoon. This is a shame because I enjoyed the first Murray Whelan novel all those years ago, but something seems to have gone stale with this book or perhaps my taste in novels has expanded. The novel is extremely male in it's tone and voice, sexist in fact so if that's your thing then go for it. There's also a dull preoccupation with driving down roads, opening fridges and beers and other humdrum daily activities that don't seem to add anything to the plot or the character development. At times I felt like I was lost inside a Woolworth's commercial. I suspect if this novel had been submitted to publishers without the push of the 'Shane Maloney" brand it would have been rejected. There are far better crime novels out there and far better crime writers who deserve to be read. This book isn't one of them.
Australian humour at its best
Loved it. This guy knows about Australia and how the ordinary Aussie lives and breathes. So close to reality you are sure it must have really happened.... and you end up laughing about it. Les Norton move over ... this guy is right up there.
